Body Boarding

Hot enough yesterday for an hour body boarding in the surf at Middleton with two friends. Each of us goes our own way, finds a spot, the right depth, position ourselves where the waves come in straight and don’t cut across each other. It’s becoming a weekly, twice weekly ritual, gathering pace as the weather warms up ; the skimming through and with the surf; dives below or jumps above the incoming waves; and then the laughter, that indefinable sense of camaraderie that brightens the dimmest of days.

And after the swim, a chat and coffee and hot chocolates back at Port Elliot, the Flying Fish cafe, Horseshoe Bay, the drive wending home.

I love poetry, writing, especially writing as healing, as touching the sacred, being touched. And place, places dreaming us, us them. Coasts, rivers, canyons; the ordinary things too, the small things, gestures that reach out.
